Craig Foster, President of the Pacific Chapter of SWANA, asks our waste and resource managers the question “How concerned are you?” at the special Ministry of Environment Information Session on amendments to the Recycling Regulation.

There is a fair amount of confusion and concern amongst waste management practitioners about changes to the waste stream, ownership, stewardship, and how these are going to impact the current waste management/recycling infrastructure in BC. While the Ministry of Environment has initiated a set of meetings at various Regional Districts over the province, the SWANA Pacific Chapter is again acting as a facilitator for the Ministry and a larger audience.

We have been successful in the past with meetings and facilitated sessions regarding landfill gas issues. We see the same opportunity for these recycling regulations and have set up information sessions this year open to our Chapter members and industry.

On Thursday, September 15, 2011, the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Solid Waste Association of North America Pacific Chapter – BC and Yukon will be hosting a live meeting/limited access conference call regarding Packaging and Printed Paper. The Recycling Regulation was amended on May 19th, 2011 to add packaging and printed paper as a new product category. This meeting/limited access conference call is free and will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport (Richmond Inn).

Pre-registration is required.

Conference call access will be limited to designated meeting places in key areas of the province - contact us for details.

There is an optional networking lunch from 12:30 to 2:00 pm following directly and available for a small charge. Again, the meeting/limited access conference call is no charge, but pre-registration is essential.
